After the Iron Man films and The Avengers films, Captain America is the best opening title on their roster. With the addition of a large portion of the Avengers cast, an opening weekend well above its predecessor’s $95 million is expected. Some say it could be one of the top openers of the franchise. There’s a reason why there aren’t any other wide releases this weekend as they’d all be crushed. The Jungle Book, in its fourth weekend, will pose no credible threat.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): After a solid first outing and a brilliant second, the Captain America films are my favorite of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so I’m quite interested to see if, by including the rest of the Avengers, they can keep the tone and quality going.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): The latest release from one of the better superhero franchises. Audiences will eat it up.
Tripp Burton (TB): I’m getting tired of the Marvel Universe very quickly, and this looks like noisy rabble.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I am a little tired of the Marvel Universe, but this has exceptional early reviews and sounds like one of the best of the bunch, though the trailer was more downbeat and confusing.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): There’s a style to the trailer that is quite pleasing. I’ll be most fascinated in seeing how it turns out eventually.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Indian horror film has a unique concept. Could be interesting.
Tripp Burton (TB): The third entry of a film series I’ve never heard of.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This Indian horror film trailer did not entice, and having not seen nor even heard of the first two films in this series, I will pass.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It’s not a new story, but it does look like a story told well with strong performance at its core.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Teenage drug addiction drama looks like a made for TV movie.
Tripp Burton (TB): It’s been a while since Rob Reiner has made a great film, and while it is nice to see him making something a little more personal, this looks drab.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This drama about an 18-year-old addict and his wealthy family did not have one sympathetic character in the trailer.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It’s an excellent cast and the trailer promises plenty of fireworks.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Good cast in quirky drama could be worth seeking out.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks to rest solely on the pretty scenery and the shoulders of an expert cast, and could be fun to check out.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A confusing trailer does not excite, but it does have some decent reviews. Could be worth seeing just to see Ralph Fiennes’ free wheeling performance. What he does in the trailer is unlike anything of his I have seen before.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I like horror films, but this one doesn’t look at all good.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): A gross looking horror film is not something I’m yearning to see.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like another cheap and flimsy horror film.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Another horror film, this one where a bride-to-be turns into a bug. The trailer had too much screaming and too little plot for me.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer isn’t much, but it promises a solid class drama.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Any film by Jacques Audiard is worth a look.
Tripp Burton (TB): Last year’s Palme d’Or winner should be the best film released this week, hands down.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It does not have an exciting trailer, but there has to be a reason this won the Palme d’Or at Cannes last year.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks like it could be quite the inspirational sports drama.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Long delayed Pele biography looks like a routine sports drama.
Tripp Burton (TB): The Zimablists have made some interesting sports documentaries in the past few years for ESPN, and this could be another well-told story.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The story of the rise of soccer legend Pele should be inspiring, but it looks not terribly interesting.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Asian ghost stories can be interesting, but this looks like a tedious bore.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Interesting looking Chinese horror film with a Phantom of the Opera vibe.
Tripp Burton (TB): It took me two minutes to find this film on Google, which is never a good sign.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This Chinese horror film looks more stylish than the other two being released this week, but I will still give it a pass.
