It will be interesting to see if the Downton Abbey sequel manages to take the number one slot off of Doctor Strange‘s hands in its third week. I suspect it probably won’t, but anything is possible.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I didn’t get to see the first movie, but I watched the entirety of the show. That gives me a slight interest in watching it, but no doubt that it may not be that great.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Probably not a great work of art but I want to see it anyway.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It will be a treat for fans of the show and will be gorgeous to look at, though I do not know if it will be any deeper than that.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Early word is really good and the film is from a fascinating filmmaker.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Jessie Buckley under Alex Garland’s direction should be worth at least a look.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer is reasonably effective, but starts running out of juice by the end. It might be fascinating like the director’s Ex Machina or wander into nothingness like his Annihilation.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): An important story can’t overcome a weak trailer.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Intriguing premise should sustain this suspenseful comedy.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I did not see too much comedy in the trailer, but enough originality that it might prove worthwhile.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer does a terrible job conveying the importance of its subject matter.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Award-winning Indian film is an indictment against rural superstition.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The conflict between parents with an ill child has the potential to be good, but it just does not generate that much enthusiasm.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): There’s a compelling film fighting to get out from behind the mediocrity of the trailer.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Futuristic Lord of the Flies looks like an edge-of-your-seat thriller.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The premise of a world using child soldiers could be interesting, but the trailer did not feel like much.
