There are three choices at the theater this weekend and the one most likely to get the most butts in the seats is the animated film. The Angry Birds Movie may be sure to top the newcomers at the box office, whether it can take the crown from Captain America: Civil War remains to be seen. The Nice Guys and Neighbors 2 will give everyone runs for their money and we could have a fairly solid performance in the Top 5 this weekend.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I like animated movies, but this looks painful.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): A full-length birds vs. pigs cartoon. I’ll pass.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like a bad idea turned into a bad movie.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer does not look as awful as I imagined, but I still have little desire to see this film.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I didn’t care much for the trailer for the first film and ended up loving it. Will lightning strike twice?
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Once was bad enough. No thanks.
Tripp Burton (TB): I never saw the original, and this doesn’t look to make me want to.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Having not seen the original, I have even less desire to see this, even though it has some decent, if tepid reviews.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I’m really quite looking forward to this one and early word is positive.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Quirky looking comedy-mystery with bland title could be hit or miss.
Tripp Burton (TB): This look like fun, although I’ll probably wait until it’s streaming to check it out.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer feels like it is trying too hard for jokes, but early reviews are good. Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe do look like they are having fun with their parts.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Is this a 1990s made-for-TV movie? It sure looks like one…and not the good kind.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Penelope Cruz makes a strong impression in the trailer but the best she managed in Spain last year were nominations making Oscar a long shot.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like another great Penelope Cruz performance in a bland movie.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): An unsubtitled trailer makes this harder to understand. An overly emotional Penelope Cruz looks good even if the film does not excite.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Good actors, but a mediocre trailer.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Well-cast modern screwball comedy could be a modest hit for Greta Gerwig and company.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like one of the hidden gems of the year.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A decent cast in a love triangle could be fun, or could be painful. I will hope that it leans towards the better.
