The third week of Top Gun: Maverick takes on the first week of Jurassic World: Dominion. It isn’t really a contest as Universal’s still-popular dinosaur franchise should have little trouble topping $100 million in its opening frame. Both of its predecessors did, though the second was a drastic drop from the $200 million-plus the first Jurassic World opened to.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The first of this new batch wasn’t great, being just a copy of the original film in a lot of ways. I had no interest in the second and still have no interest in the third.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Not sure the world needs another Jurassic Park movie, but this looks to be a huge summer hit.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I doubt it will be the best of the series, but it should be enjoyable enough as it wraps up the set of films.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It might be enticing, but the trailer is pretty dull.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Trailer for award-winning French film seems awfully mediocre.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer does not enthrall. but the number of Cesars the film won and the fact that the critics seem to like it, make me think it will be a worthwhile film.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): As important as the subject matter might be, it certainly deserves better.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Well-intentioned drama about 1970s school busing looks undernourished.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): There is a possibility of a good film about racism and busing in Boston in 1974, and I hope this succeeds in being it.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): An intriguing idea, but can it land the execution?
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Unorthodox teen comedy looks like it stretches a one-note premise for far too long.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I did not see much humor in the trailer which felt a little sad and odd. It might prove better than that.
