Spider-Man: Far from Home is likely to take a second victory lap at the top of the charts this weekend as the week’s two new releases aren’t likely to compete. Crawl appeals to creature horror film lovers while Stuber appeals to buddy-cop comedies, two extremely narrow demographics. Stuber has the most potential for cross-demo appeal, so I expect it to finish second.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Creature features aren’t really my thing.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Low rent horror is not my cup of tea.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): If creature attack films are your favorite, this looks to be a better than average one, but itโ€™s not my style.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks so exceedingly dumb that I’m not sure it will be worth much.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like a movie for silly asses.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I did not find much humor in the trailer, as it felt more labored than anything.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A black comedy without teeth, at least none the trailer suggests will be there.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): This looks like it might be the week’s most intelligent and rewarding film.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Once again it felt like this was supposed to be a comedy, but I saw little in the trailer that appealed to me.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Early word from the festival circuit is that this is quite the humanistic story, which might make it worth watchin.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like a thoughtful film about family and dying.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer does not feel like anything that new, but word of mouth about the film and especially Awkwafinaโ€™s lead performance make me want to see this.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer suggests this is a rather insipid comedy.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Offbeat comedy could be a pleasant time-killer.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I was not sure if they were trying for edgy comedy or what, but the trailer did a bad job in selling the film.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I’m intrigued by the concept as it has a sort of The Purge vibe.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Enough of these home invasion thrillers.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Another film about an awful group terrorizing a group of friends and I just have no desire to see it.
