There are no new wide releases this weekend, so Star Wars: The Force Awakens will continue to dominate. Of the new releases at the specialty box office, Anomalisa will tower over newcomer Yosemite and possibly over all others in that marketplace.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I’m definitely interested, but must explain my low rating. The Academy’s animation branch has been rather opposed to more adult fair appearing in the Best Animated Feature category, so I wouldn’t be shocked if it missed the final 5.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Already a major awards magnet, Oscar should follow suit with this latest concoction from Charlie Kaufman.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like another wild ride from Charlie Kaufman, and it is getting people excited already.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The word of mouth on this animated film is phenomenal. I can’t wait to see it.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): James Franco seems like he’s in everything these days and none of his projects, this one included, look particularly interesting.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): One of a number of James Franco films in the works, could be a worthy successor to Stand By Me, or just another near-miss. Time will tell.
Tripp Burton (TB): Yet another piece of the James Franco oeuvre, which is expanding rapidly. I may check this out once it is streaming.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Nothing about the trailer really excites me, but nothings turns me totally off to the movie either. It just doesn’t look that exciting, however.
