The final weekend of the year, the New Year’s holiday weekend, has one new major release and that’s Jockey, heading out into a scant number of theaters. This is to that the Christmas releases can continue bringing in audiences and because New Year’s tends to be one of the year’s slowest weekends (like Labor Day, but a little more bountiful).

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Seeing Clifton Collins giving a solid lead performance is something to watch, but the film feels very paint-by-numbersy.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Impressively reviewed independent film with a possible Oscar nomination in play for Clifton Collins, Jr.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): There have been many sports movies about characters at the end of their competitive lives, though perhaps none about jockeys. It is said to boast a great performance by Clifton Collins Jr., and it probably should be decent.
