Looking at the Weekend: Dec. 20-22, 2019

The second major event of the year, the second historical culmination of a multi-year franchise. Capping Disney’s stranglehold on the U.S. box office this year, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker enters the fray as 2019 comes to a close and will surely send the year off with a bang.

	Wesley Lovell (WL): I’ve never seen the stage show and the first trailer looked absolutely dreadful. Peter J. Patrick (PP): With the hideous CGI work completely redone at great expense after the release of the first trailer, this looks much better but is still not my favorite musical. Thomas LaTourette (TL): I lost a lot of interest in this film when I saw the trailer which made it look weird rather than enjoyable. Perhaps it will be good, though it looks more cringeworthy than interesting.

	Wesley Lovell (WL): I’ve seen all of the other big screen live-action outings. Gotta finish it all off, of course. Peter J. Patrick (PP): It looks decent enough, but this latest Star Wars effort will probably do better with audiences than Oscar. Thomas LaTourette (TL): I am curious to see how this series wraps up, like much of America. It should be a great ride.

Patrick (PP): Brazilian entry into the Oscar race for International Film about separated sisters could be interesting. Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer for Invisible Life tried to create drama about two sisters missing each other, but it just did lot look that interesting.
