There aren’t a lot of options this weekend for huge openings, so between Beast and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Beast seems the more likely to top the other, but neither are compelling box office contenders.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): None of the trailers have been exciting and the premise isn’t terribly appealing by itself.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Idris Elba vs. a bloodthirsty lion could be a good film to cool off to in the hot weather.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It has a couple of good actors, but it looks like any man versus animal movie out there.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I am not the audience for this kind of movie, especially since I am not a big anime fan.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like the kind of thing that only used to show up on Saturday morning kids’ TV.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Nothing about the trailer inspires any interest in me to see this film. Bad animation and little or hokey dialogue, I will pass.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer did such a poor job conveying the subject matter, that I’m struggling to develop any interest at all.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): I’m always up for a good mystery so I will definitely give this one a chance.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It might prove more interesting than the trailer, but I just did not care for any of the characters. It does look like a meaty role for Marisa Tomei.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): There’s promise here, but the trailer is largely forgettable and for a film like this, that’s saying something.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks unusual enough to garner interest but I think I’ll wait for the reviews on this one.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It might be okay, but another locked room psychological drama hardly excites.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I don’t care much for westerns and this anti-western doesn’t really look that compelling.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): 19th century-set feminist Australian western seems to be laying it on a bit too thick.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The reviews and the trailer spark some interest, but I am not sure that it is enough to make me see the film.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I didn’t have an interest in the original film, so I have nothing but disinterest for a sequel.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): If you’ve seen one of these child killer thrillers you’ve seen them all – I’ll pass.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I did not see the original Orphan, and this trailer does not make me want to see the sequel.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer is almost interesting, which means the film could be better than it looks, especially with Allison Brie involved.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like a confusing mix of genres from comedy to romance to horror.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): There is enough humor in the trailer to pique interest, but not enough of a story to really grab an audience.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I do like science fiction and the narrative at the heart of this has a lot of potential.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like another bleak post-apocalyptic drama going nowhere.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I do not know where the movie is going, but the trailer creates an amazingly original world that makes me want to see it.
