There are no new wide releases this week, leaving Godzilla vs. Kong with a clear path to a third week at the top of the box office after last week’s flop of wide opener Voyagers.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This horror film looks like it wants to be inventive and original, but looks derivative.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): This week’s horror show doesn’t look like anything I want to see.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer is mostly horror with a very little bit of humor which does not bode well for a film trying to be both. It felt like it did not know what it wants to be.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): If it weren’t for star Sebastian Stan, I would have little interest in this film.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): High energy romance looks like it could be a pleasant surprise.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Most of this didn’t work for me because it mostly was showing the couple’s early signs of passion without too much drama. It might prove interesting, but just did not impress me that I have to see it.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This looks to be a tepid action film with nary a resemblance to any of the Sicario films.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Witness protection breach dramas are popular with TV audiences, so this one should do well streaming.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Drug criminals trying to get back a witness has been done before, and probably better.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The only difference between this film and countless others of its type is that it’s a woman fighting to protect her child rather than a father.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Morgan Freeman in his first villain role in decades won’t be enough to save this dubious exercise in mayhem.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Aside from seeing Morgan Freeman cast against type as a villain, this film seems to have little to recommend it.
