The third film in the Fantastic Beasts series releases this weekend. The second film, which disappointed some, opened to $62 million. Even a slight dip from there could still earn the top spot at the box office as long as Sonic 2 doesn’t have a surprisingly strong holdover.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The third chapter in a series that some aren’t that interested in, but I am.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): I vaguely remember the previous films in this franchise but expect it will be a huge hit.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts series have always been entertaining, and I imagine this one will be too.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I’m really not interested in another religious redemptive storyline.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): The unappealing trailer doesn’t quite sell Mark Wahlberg as a womanizing boxer turned Catholic priest.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Mark Wahlberg is probably a good choice for playing a boxer turned Catholic priest, but it looks like a pretty by the numbers biopic.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Looks overly familiar, which generally means a lack of fun.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Another week, another house of horror. No thanks.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This looks like a pretty poor excuse of a haunted house flick, not terrible but nothing original.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer is a bit bonkers, so it could be worth a laugh.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Sci-fi film about reincarnation looks awfully dull.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): There might be an interesting story there, but the trailer left me unexcited.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A good cast may embellish a solid premise.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Sci-fi film with an intriguing premise about a duel between dual persons, one being a clone of the other.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Actually, the trailer had me laughing out loud in places, so hopefully the movie can live up to that. It is an intriguing concept and hopefully holds up better than the director’s last effort.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer doesn’t do much for the film, but it sounds like it might be worth catching.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): French relationship drama looks OK but doesn’t seem to be anything special.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer looks pretty, but I was not sold on the intermingling love stories in it.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer tried to oversell the praise the film’s received while giving the audience nothing of interest.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Beautifully photographed Italian film but about what it’s hard to tell.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A beautiful but confusing and absurdist trailer does little to inspire one to see the film.
