Poster Rating: B-; C+

Review: The first poster is the official one, bearing the release title The Ex. While it subtly suggests Jason Bateman being in a wheelchair, it doesn’t show such. I like the way it frames the three characters and their relationship, but it’s a bit too simple in the long laundry list of names appearing in the film; The second poster, which carries theoriginal titleFast Track, is a little more interesting and still highlights the dynamic of the three main characters but eliminates the wheelchair handicap of Bateman’s character, which is surprising in both posters since that is the basis of the humor of the film.

Trailer Rating: B-

Review: A rivalry between two ad execs, one handicapped, the other not, proves unamusing despite a couple of funny scenes in the preview. This looks like every other film about handicapped people sticking it to the not-as-insensitive-as-they-really-are blokes who just happen to say or do the wrong things.

Oscar Prospects:

Zach Braff hasn’t proven the success as a star that he has as a director. Sure, he’s one of the best things about TV’s Scrubs, but that doesn’t translate to box office or critical success. This film definitely gives the vibe of Oscar non-entity. Maybe Braff should go back to directing himself.
