Synopsis:

From IMDb: “An exposition of cyclist Lance Armstrong as he trains for his eighth Tour de France victory.”

Poster: C+

The producers deftly avoided the use of yellow, Lance Armstrong’s central color, though they may have missed out on an interesting comparison of the LiveStrong hue and the frequent emotional comparison with the color. The design puts the film’s central figure front-and-center, but how many people will really recognize him as a non-cyclist? Not as many as the producers will hope.

Trailer: B

Review: It’s a compelling narrative added weight by the fact that Alex Gibney had originally begun work on a pro-Armstrong documentary and with the revelations of doping, it’s turned into an exposรฉ of the cyclist using pre-recorded footage and even a new interview. The trailer does a fine job setting this up and even making it certain that the subject has importance.

Oscar Prospects:

Alex Gibney is a documentarian you should always watch when it comes to the Oscars. The Academy might be looking for something less political to fill its roster out this year and this would be a good opportunity for them.
