Release Date:

Synopsis:

From IMDb: “Author P.L. Travers reflects on her difficult childhood while meeting with filmmaker Walt Disney during production for the adaptation of her eponymous novel.”

Poster: A

Review: An inventive, clever design that eschews demanding, chaotic visuals and focuses on a simple idea of Mickey Mouse talking to Mary Poppins. It’s all you really need to know.

Trailer: B-

Review: This looks like a standard issue, sermonizing family drama that superficially explores the relationship between Walt Disney and P.L. Travers. There is the potential for deeper meaning, but the trailer tries its best to ignore that aspect of the film, meaning it’s either there and not marketable or not there and they don’t want anyone to suspect.

Oscar Prospects:

What I Initially Said: Emma Thompson might be a nominee and I could see some other creative category nominations, but the movie seems a bit too slight in comparison to the year’s other heftier competitors.
What I Say Now: The buzz has really built up in the last month or so and having seen the film, I think it could easily contend for a nomination in Best Picture, Emma Thompson seems almost assured of a Best Actress mention and the film’s screenplay will likely get nominated even if its historical facts are a wrong in a few places. The film should also pick up several other nominations in the creative categories.
