Poster Rating: B

Review: It’s a strong statement about how to use sex to sell a film. Although the poster hardly gives much of an impression of the film’s subject, the sexy poses and ultra-glossy presentation make for an pleasing presentation.

Trailer Rating: B+; C

Review: I have to admit the trailer certainly makes the film look charming. Hilary Swank isn’t the most impressive actresses when she’s wearing makeup. This trailer looks quite a bit similar to The Lake House and I’m not expecting much mroe than a cautiously-staged romantic comedy.

What looked like an endearing romantic comedy is wasted in this longer, less interesting trailer. Swank’s ability to sell the film will be tested as she’s hardly a box office draw and while Gerard Butler’s been in The Phantom of the Opera and the highly successful 300, he has not proven himself a box office draw since neither of those films relied on his name to sell.

Oscar Prospects:

Hilary Swank is either poison or refreshment for any film she’s in. Without a trailer, and based solely on the poster, I’d say this one won’t be much of a contender for her. She’s too glam and her two Oscar winning performances were rather unglamorous.

Now that I’ve seen the trailer, I’m positive it won’t figure in the Oscar race. While it’s an interesting concept, it’s not the style the Academy tends to recognize.
