Film Preview: Louder Than Bombs (2016)

Page Revisions:

(March 13, 2016) Original

Release Date:

April 8, 2016

From IMDb: “The fractious family of a father and his two sons confront their different feelings and memories of their deceased wife and mother, a famed war photographer.”

Poster Rating: F / D / B

Review: (#1) Four quadrant designs are so utterly generic that featuring your stars in those quadrants doesn’t improve anything. (#2) I won’t completely flunk this design, because it’s at least more interesting than the first, but what does a girl bouncing on a trampoline really have to do with this film? (#3) The white background is distracting, but the shattered mirror motif is more effective than you would expect, especially since each are shattered from one another and Jesse Eisenberg’s character is additionally fractured beyond that.

Trailer Rating: B

Review: While you can’t say exactly what the film’s entire purpose is, there’s enough information in the trailer to give indie audiences something to roll around in their minds before deciding if they want to catch it.

Oscar Prospects:

The film just doesn’t seem like an Oscar contender, but Isabelle Huppert has been long denied an Oscar nomination in spite of an exemplary body of work and Jesse Eisenberg is in a lot of high profile projects this year, so it could be a convergence of storms.
