Review: (#1) That white background is distracting, as is the floral print dress. The glittery golden title is fitting, but also a bit tacky.

(#2) While the prior design hinted at black-and-white, this one achieves it, using the ruby red of the title to symbolize Judy Garland’s legendary slippers. That doesn’t give the film much depth or excitement, though.

Review: (#1) There isn’t enough here to rush to judgement, but as a first glimpse, Renée Zellweger appears to have the right mannerisms to astound as the legendary Judy Garland. We’ll see how it works out.

(#2) Getting a bit more of her singing helps put is in her orbit, but it’s the expansion of the narrative and an idea of what type of character study this will be that should enchant any fan of Judy Garland or of Hollywood in general.

Oscar Prospects:

The film’s quality may be in question and its Oscar chances are unfathomable right now, but based on the first trailer, Oscar winner Renée Zellweger may well be back in the competition this year for Best Actress.
