Review: (#1) Trying to conjure nostalgia by focusing on the audio cassette angle fits, but feels too overt. (#2) This is a much better sales tool as it presents the antics of a group of guys dressed in 1980s attire, which more than capably explains the concept.

Trailer Rating: C / C-

Review: (#1) Having gone to school on the cusp of the 1980s switch over to the 1990s, I never went to High School in the period, but still feel connected to it. That makes a trailer like this work better than for those who didn’t go to school in or around the 1980s. Having said that, there’s nothing particularly compelling about this premise.

(#2) This second trailer doesn’t focus on the potential for fun and focuses instead on Richard Linklater’s name as well as what the critics have been saying. That won’t mean much to very many.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
