Review: It’s not often we get to be amused by Disney’s ability to make fun of itself. Normally, the studio has been very reverential in its treatment of its own products, but Enchanted seems like the kind of film to completely lambast them. If the film is as interesting as the preview and not as much like Kate & Leopold as it could be, then we might have a delightful piece of family entertainment for the fall.

Oscar Prospects:

There may be a few tech nominations, but with so much present-day action and too little animation, Oscar will likely bypass this one all together. The only category that seems like a possibility is Costume Design.

Release Date:

November 21, 2007

Synopsis:

The film does not live up to its preview-borne promise. The film has exceptional moments surrounded by clunky and barely amusing antics. Disney doesn’t end up commenting on its past products. Instead, the film holds those films up higher, reverentially, thus depriving the audience of a truly self-mocking feature.
