Review: With a tagline like "The war on terror just came home," my suspicions remain confimed. The rest of the poster just looks clumsy. There’s no style or energy, it just features a man with a gun on a cellphone. The poster will likely lose the gun at some point before the film’s release, but that won’t do the poster any favors unless a whole new design is put together.

Trailer Rating: D+

Review: Civic Duty looks like a major disaster. The premise seems a bit flawed as it over-accentuates the angle of an ordinary citizen, certain his neighbor’s a terrorist, going to great lengths to protect his family and his country without any help from the government. The film has two directions to go according to this preview. Either Peter Krause’s right the entire time, in which case the film slimily reinforces a stereotype; or Krause is wrong and his neighbor isn’t a terrorist at which point the film just becomes another tired action thriller that is trying to say something about tolerance.

Oscar Prospects:

I don’t expect to see this film anywhere near the Oscars. Critics will likely deride the film’s cookie-cutter suspense-building technique.
