The Academy has announced the 15 films submitted for consideration for this year’s Academy Awards. With this announcement, the number of nominees in the category is limited to three, so the jockeying now begins to fill the third slot with How to Train Your Dragon and Toy Story 3 solid bets for nominations.

Here are the films under consideration (an * indicates the film has not yet been released and will not be eligible unless it meets the release criteria of the category):

Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore
Despicable Me
The Dreams of Jinsha *
How to Train Your Dragon
Idiots and Angels
The Illusionist *
Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole
Megamind
My Dog Tulip
Shrek Forever After
Summer Wars *
Tangled *
Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue
Toy Story 3

Let’s not forget the heavy Disney bias. In the past, Disney has managed nominations when we weren’t expecting it. And although Tangled may seem slight, we should not discount it…nor should we discount Despicable Me.

Well, Toy Story 3 and How to Train Your Dragon are both in and I’ll say that the third slot will go to The Illusionist if it makes as much waves as The Triplets of Bellville did.
