Amazon has a lot of solid efforts this year. They’ve sent four. Of note is that Woody Allen isn’t listed at all on the Wonder Wheel screener, not for directing or for screenplay.

Oscar Chances: Unlikely: The film released to fairly poor reviews and hasn’t been seen in Precursor season at all.

The Lost City of Z

Oscar Chances: Unlikely: Although the film was praised for its cinematography, it has only gotten a smattering of attention, though a well-placed nod from the American Society of Cinematographers could rescue it.
Campaign-Proposed Categories

  • None (Commercial DVD provided)

Wonder Wheel

Oscar Chances: Unlikely: Woody Allen’s name isn’t the best in Hollywood right now (which could explain why he’s not referenced for consideration on the screener). That said, the film didn’t get great reviews and although early word was that Kate Winslet was fantastic, the end result doesn’t support that hypothesis and she’s been absent most of the season.

Wonderstruck

Oscar Chances: Unlikely: Originally thought to be a major player this year, the film released to lackluster notices and seems to have faded pretty fast. There’s still the possibility that cinematography, production design, costume design, and original score could be in the offing, but chances are growing remote by the day.
